No Food or Drink in the Labs
For Motion Design (Journalism 560), I created a broadcast graphic illustrating the message “No food or drinks in the lab.” The video was designed for potential display on digital signage throughout the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at USC.
The project was developed using Adobe After Effects, focusing on clear communication, motion flow, and visual appeal suitable for a campus-wide audience.
Process

I began the process by sketching ideas on paper, exploring concepts, visuals, and words that captured the message I wanted to communicate in the final video.
Because the piece would be presented without music or sound, I focused on creating visuals that were clear, compelling, and bold enough to convey the message on their own.

I then translated my sketches into a series of storyboards, experimenting with how to bring my ideas to life through motion and design. This phase involved testing different background textures, deciding when to use photography versus illustration, and refining how the video would conclude.
After sharing the storyboards with classmates and my professor, I received good feedback, including the idea to end the video with a “computer funeral” scene, which became a defining moment in the final piece.
